AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY (2013) - JOHN WELLS ★★★★★

This movie was insane from start to finish, and had one of the best performances Julia Roberts has ever given. I know it may have been a lot of scenery chewing but it all worked for me.

DEVIL'S KNOT (2013) - ATOM EGOYAN ★★★

I don't quite understand why this movie was made considering that there are literally four documentaries about the West Memphis Three and this one takes quite generously from each one. I'm not sure why there needed to be a fictional take on it. The acting was great and of course the story is intriguing and heartbreaking, but I'd rather stick with non-fiction on this one.

HER (2013) - SPIKE JONZE ★★★

Sadly, I did not get what I feel I should have out of this movie, considering the praise and applaud it's received. It was visually stimulating and Scarlett Johansson is sexy even when we only hear her voice but I felt very little emotional connection to this film.

CORIOLANUS - NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE ★★★★

I knew the basic plot of Coriolanus going into this screening so granted, the confusion I felt was completely my fault, but this was a wonderfully performed war melodrama. And Tom Hiddleston was ah-mah-zing.

CASABLANCA (1942) - MICHAEL CURTIZ ★★★★★

THE WIND RISES (2013) - HAYAO MIYAZAKI ★★

This is by far my least favourite Miyazaki film. There was a magical element, like all his films, but it was so minute and flowed kind of awkwardly throughout the movie. I was honestly bored.

THE LEGO MOVIE (2014) - PHIL LORD, CHRISTOPHER MILLER ★★★★

This was such a cute, fun movie. There was some substance, but honestly this movie wins for the hilarity and the visual stimulation.

LEON: THE PROFESSIONAL (1994) - LUC BESSON ★★★★★

This movie was phenomenal. It also has one of the most beautiful scenes in a film I've seen in a very long time: Léon sits in a movie theatre totally enraptured by Gene Kelly. Emotional and simply gorgeous.

DRINKING BUDDIES (2013) - JOE SWANBERG ★★★★

This movie went in a completely different direction than I thought it would and that was honestly very refreshing. Also, the fact that it was all improvised is mighty impressive.

GIRL MOST LIKELY (2012) - SHARI SPRINGER BERMAN, ROBERT PULCINI ★★★★

This was a very cute and quite heartfelt movie. Also ten million points to Christopher Fitzgerald for his amazingly sweet portrayal of crab-obsessed Ralph.

THAT GUY... WHO WAS IN THAT THING (2012) - IAN ROUMAIN, MICHAEL SCHWARTZ ★★★

Very interesting insight into the men who never quite make it to the spotlight.

HIS GIRL FRIDAY (1940) - HOWARD HAWKS ★★

Jesus, this movie would put the Gilmore Girls to shame in speed talking. This movie started out intriguing and slowly just disgusted me.

ON THE WATERFRONT (1954) - ELIA KAZAN ★★★★

This movie was phenomenal, excellent acting and a wonderful narrative.

THE ROOM (2003) - TOMMY WISEAU ★★★★

This movie is considered to be one of the worst films of all time. I absolutely couldn't believe what I was watching, the entire time. I freaking loved it.

LOST IN TRANSLATION (2003) - SOFIA COPPOLA ★★★★★
