Day 3 - 27 Days to 25

Happy Good Friday everyone! How is everyone's day off? You guys sleep in? Or did you have a cat walk across you at 6:00 in the morning like I did? No? Okay, fine. Anyway... TO THE WORKOUT!

Oy. I HURT. Today was not easy, and I wanted to quit a ton of times. I actually got angry at myself (and by proxy Cassey, though she isn't to blame) that I wasn't doing as well as I wanted to do.

I went in to today feeling stiff from yesterday so already I knew things were not going to be that easy. I also decided to switch the Friday workout with the Saturday workout as tonight is the first night of Passover and I will be YOLOing it hard on the food tonight. Friday's are rest days in the Blogilates workout calendar so I actually vetoed a day TO RECOVER for a day WHERE I HURT MORE! I am clearly becoming a masochist.

The first video is actually only available on the Blogilates app. It's a morning stretch routine. I learned my lesson from yesterday and wrote my notes in the Notes app instead of the Squarespace app in between videos. Since I'm sore from yesterday, I found this video to be quite hard. I also didn't workout right when I woke up, I ate and had my coffee beforehand (and waited an hour, like a good little fitness girl) but I felt wiped out. This energized me a bit, but really, I could have gone back to bed after this.

I was getting annoyed and frustrated in this video, especially since Cassey kept whooping. STOP BEING SO HAPPY, I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH YOUR HAPPINESS AND JOY! I was literally moaning "no" by the end of the video. This is the first time in these three days where I started to feel really defeated and depleted. I was definitely beating myself up a bit over not doing this video to the best of my abilities. BUT WE MUST GO ON!

And go on I did. So much so, that I actually LOVED this video! I've stated multiple times how much cardio and I are enemies so it was nice to take a bit of a breather on that in this video. I could sit or lie throughout the entire 5 minutes and it passed really quickly. I definitely got my excitement back in this video. I feel like I conquered a good 80% of this video (the last move was done a little half-assedly on my part) so that makes me pretty happy.

I had done this video before so I knew what to expect going in. I LOVE THIS VIDEO. You know why I love it? BECAUSE I CAN DO THE WHOLE THING WITHOUT STOPPING! It's basically a longer version of the arms of death routine I used to do in Zumba. Oh Zumba. You were fun until I fell in one of your classes and was basically out of commission for half a year. Good times.

Believe it or not, I LOVE lifting weights. I'm not sure if it's because you can actually measure a tangible difference in strength because you increase your weight capacity or if it's because it's not cardio but I LOVED THIS VIDEO! EXCEPT FOR THE CARDIO PARTS (obvs).  Good end to a hard workout.

Short post today guys because... THERE IS STILL A FANGIRL FRIDAY COMING UP! And I don't pre-write things like a normal blogger does so once I finish this post, I'm going to go right into that one.

Day 2 - 28 Days to 25

Hey! Two days in a row, not too shabby! This can sooooo be done. Despite the fact that I wanted to die while working out today. Other than that, totally doable. 

So I actually wrote down little notes between each video so that I would remember exactly what I liked and didn't like and what was hard and wasn't hard, but the Squarespace app decided to eat it so I'm going to be working off of memory. The first good thing about today was that I found the Blogilates playlists, so I didn't need to search for any of the videos today. I stream them through the Apple TV so I can work out using a big screen and today it was one, two, three.

I'd like to preface this all by saying that I am not used to doing hour long workouts anymore. I used to do them, but it's been a very long time since I've done them consistently. Right now, an hour seems like FOREVER. But we persist. Anyway, let's get started!

This was waayyyyy easier than I thought it would be. Not that it was easy. It wasn't. But I loved the ladder technique, and I really do like seeing timers and knowing how long I'm going to be suffering for. Cassey also gives beginner versions for the first two exercises but I'm proud to say that I only needed it for the second one. This was tough, but pretty exhilarating. I really do need this kind of kick in the butt to do cardio as well, as I'd much rather do the more low-impact stuff (duh). Unfortunately, the cardio will be the stuff that will actually cause changes in the body so I give in to it. 

O.M.G. I was STREAMING sweat during this. STREAMING. The cat was also blocking the window (that minx) so she was getting all the cool air and I was left looking like a drowned, harassed rat (thanks Scissor Sisters!). This was TOUGH! BUT, one awesome thing was that I actually tried to do the Donkey Kicks in this one (something I vetoed for an easier version yesterday) and... I can actually do them? This was shocking news to me. Granted, I couldn't do as many as Cassey (seriously, that would be crazy if I could), but I DID SOME.

There were more hops in this one, just like the last video, so my legs were screaming at me. I definitely paused a few times, but I think altogether, I finished relatively strong.

I thought this was going to be a walk in the park, and for Coach Nicole's moves, it was. Cassey, of course, has to go and murder me. I didn't put my sneakers back on for this workout as I'd taken them off from the first video to do the second, but I don't really think it mattered too much. I did this one, but by the end, I was ready to be done. Except... there were still two more videos left.

I swear to God, I was screaming "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!" basically the entire workout. Never have I ever prayed for the abs portion of a workout so it could be a REST. The first move was ridonk, I may have done about a third of it, I kept falling over, which was very exciting. I actually really like working inner thighs (when I'm on the floor) so the last little bit was pretty fun. 

Finally, the last video! I thought this one might be a little easier, but NOPE. The moves in this video seem so damn simple but when you have to do them about a million times, everything starts to burn. A LOT. The final bridge stuff was totally killer, and again I fell over multiple times. YAY NO BALANCE!

One fun thing that happened yesterday is I actually got Cassey's book A WHOLE WEEK EARLY!

Yup, Indigo fucked up and released it (to me anyway, not sure if it's out on the floor) a week before it's publication date. If this was a Harry Potter book, Indigo would need to lawyer the fuck up. In this case, however, it's not a huge deal. And Cassey knows (she liked my picture of it on Instagram) and hopes I enjoy the book! I can't wait to go through it and find new moves and recipes to incorporate into my life.

Day 1 - 29 Days to 25

The first day of Blog Every Day in April (BEDA) is upon us! 

Shit was I feeling lazy this morning.

I dragged myself out of bed, petted the cat for a bit, and FORCED myself to put on a sports bra, shorts and my sneakers. It took me a good 10 minutes to fully awaken and even then by the time I put on the first Blogilates video of the day, I was still pretty zoned out.

BUT WE PRESS ON! This was the first video of five that I went through this morning. 30 seconds in, I was already dying. Seriously, Cassey? Star jumps? YOU'RE KILLING ME! I was able to finish (barely) and I was even smiling by the end. It's always nice to workout with an instructor who is doing the exercises with you, especially one you find incredibly difficult (and that they seem to have a bit of trouble with as well). I did do the easier version of the In-n-Out Donkey Kicks, Burpees and Split Squat Jumps because I am just not there yet. Slowly but surely, I do feel like my endurance is rising, but I'm still miles away from completing this workout without stopping.

Oh my butt, was this ever hard. I'm pretty comfortable with squats, having done many FitnessBlender squat challenges and many years of yoga. Still, pulsing squats are kind of the worst. I was doing pretty well with this video until the very last move which was a Single Legged Bridge. Basically, you lift that booty up like a normal bridge BUT YOU HAVE TO BALANCE ON ONLY ONE LEG! It was horrendous, I was literally laughing in pain. The cat came over to investigate but soon lost interest.

This one wasn't too bad, but it was a little annoying that quite a few of the moves from the previous video were repeated in this one (which is understandable, all of Cassey's videos are standalone). I guess it is good to continually work at the same move, but I was hoping for a little more variety. However, one thing that I love about Cassey is that she'll start talking about random things, like her nails or some stories. THIS IS THE BEST BECAUSE IT SOMEWHAT DISTRACTS FROM THE IMMENSE PAIN THAT YOU'RE IN!!!!

At this point, I'm getting SUPER tired. I'm actually yawning, I'm that tired (trust, I was definitely NOT bored). I loved this video because of the timer in the corner so I knew exactly how long I was going to be tortured. Unfortunately, two of the moves are done on one knee and my right knee is basically all cartilage which makes resting basically my entire body weight on it a bit difficult. I paused a lot during this video, even though it was only five minutes long. I was definitely getting ready to call it quits.

BUT IT'S NOT OVER YET! Finally get to the final video of the day. I'd actually done this video a few days ago so it wasn't as difficult as I thought. My one issue is I have very clicky hips. Anytime I would Hot Potatoes, my hips would sound like they were dislodging from my body. EVERY TIME. Despite that, I actually love this workout because you can rest quite a bit during it. Yes, your butt and your thighs feel like they're being murdered, but I never felt winded or like my heart was beating out of my chest like the first workout. 

Of course, even though the videos were done, I still had to do the first day of the #30DaysSleekArms challenge. Luckily, this took about 30 seconds and I took my dripping self into the shower. 

PHEW! Day one done, only 29 more days to go. THIS WAS NOT EASY but I'm hoping with practice and persistence it'll get less horrible. Cassey does make me smile, and I honestly do have fun while doing these videos. I really do feel stronger since I started doing her beginner videos last month though I'm honestly not sure if there's been any visible physical change (I have no full-length mirrors in my apartment). 

The best part of doing it in the morning is that when I get home at night, I don't have to worry about getting in my exercise. I can enjoy my night of mediocre food, with cat nearby, watching The X-Files, like a normal adult.

One Month to 25

Here on Jane's Views, I tackle a bunch of different topics, but they all have one thing in common: they interest me. 

That's why, for one month only, I'm going to be doing something a little different. Because I can.

At the end of April, April 30th to be exact, I will be turning 25 (*grips chest in horror*) and I want to give myself a month-long exercise challenge. The new Blogilates April calendar has been posted (check for it!) and because it's going to be difficult and a massive undertaking, I want to blog about it.

Every day.

There will be a post EVERY DAY IN APRIL.

I still intend to do my track-by-track reviews (already working on The Academy Is...'s first album Almost Here that came out 10 years ago) and I'll still be doing my Fangirl Fridays (how else will you know that I'm TOTALLY OBSESSED WITH Bojack Horseman?) but this month will take on a more health and wellness slant. 

I've set up a newsletter function (through Mail.... Kimp? Oh, Serial, remember when you were relevant?) so you can follow along with the month-long journey. I won't spam you, it's just for fun and maybe a little encouragement. 

I'm going to be a quarter of a century old next month. The idea of that frightens me but also excites me. Where will the next month take me? Where will the next day?
